The Ducks

It was a beautiful day, so we decided to go to the park that has a lake. Of course, we had to see if there were any ducks up close to the shoreline. We usually bring some sort of bread to feed any ducks that are close enough. There were a good many ducks on the water but none were close to shore. We sat there and watched them as they swam across the pond.

There was one duck that was all by himself. As he swam across the pond he left a wake behind him. He was a small duck and his wake was not very big, but it was long. It must of been about 15 feet behind him. No matter where that little duck swam, he left a trail that showed exactly where he had been.

As we travel through this life, we leave a wake behind us. Everything we say and do affects others around us. That little duck had no idea that he left his wake or if it had an affect on the other ducks. But we know that we are accountable for all of our actions and the results that those actions have on those around us.

Maybe we need to stop and turn around and take stock of what we have left in our wake. Are the results of our passing by pleasing or have they left pain and destruction?

No matter what we have done before, it is never too late to start leaving a different kind of wake behind us.

Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed. As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written:

"Be holy, because I am holy."
(1 Pet 1:13-16 NIV)
