Standing After The Storm

It’s about this time of year I look forward to spring and planting flowers. The birds are singing, a few early spring flowers are already pushing their way through the cool damp ground, and the days become longer. Humming birds will swoop to their feeders, while making their sweet sounds of chattering,

Although there are many benefits to spring, Oklahomans must face the threat of tornadoes. The sky hosts dark, intimidating clouds. Rolling and gathering intensity of speed, the tornado is often seen dropping to the ground, only to rise again. Other times, the vicious killer strikes without mercy, leaving little to recognize at its finish.

There is a ‘quiet before the storm.’ I never understood the expression until experiencing it. An eerie silence washes over me; and for the moment, nothing seems to move. I find it hard to breathe in the thick, humid air. Then, without warning, a tornado drops from the darkened cloud in all her fury.

We are all too familiar with the consequences of anything or anyone in its path. Much like the fury one faces in the storms of Oklahoma, our walk with God may reflect the same. Many storms are hurled across our paths...be it sickness, death of loved ones, disasters, or perhaps an unfaithful spouse. Satan hovers over the Christian as the looming storms, waiting to see whom he might devour.

The important question is, “Who will be standing after the Storm? ” Will you or I be able to withstand the storms of life? There is a way to stay in perfect peace, but peace will only come as we place our complete faith and trust in Jesus.

Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. NIV We know from Philippians, that it is possible to have peace of mind as we go through trials.

Jesus forewarned that there would be trials and tests. It’s very important what we choose to do when they come. Let us make the decision to listen to God’s Word, combine it with faith and confess it with our mouths.  Psalms 85:8 I will listen to what God the Lord will say; he promise peace to his people, his saints…NIV

Our Heavenly Father’s ultimate desire is to see his saints standing…. planted solid on the Rock of Our Salvation.  Let us put our face to the winds and proclaim, “We shall not be moved!”

2 Thessalonians 3:16 NIV Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way.  Amen
