Divine Intervention

Psalm 121:7, 8
The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even forever more. (KJV)

As a morning person, I normally rise around five in the morning. This gives me time to have a cup of coffee, take care of few necessities, and pray. Today I overslept, getting me off to a slow start. To make matters worse, the phone rang three times within twenty minutes.

Frustrated, I excused myself from the last phone call and raced to dress, grabbing a cup of coffee, my purse, and car keys. I slammed the door behind me. Fog slowed down my progress to the highway

Once on the highway, I turned on the radio and sang along with the music playing.  I did a quick check of the speedometer. Satisfied that I was a little below the speed limit, I relaxed.

The highway I travel on is a narrow one without a shoulder, and several hills. Fog filled the lower areas making it hard to see even a car’s length ahead.

Slowing my car, I started through one of the foggy areas when I suddenly saw two sets of headlights, one set coming straight towards me on my side of the road. I tapped my breaks to give the truck time to pass the other driver, he then quickly passed and returned to his side of the road with no harm done. With a sigh of relief, I thanked God for all the times he comes to my aid to protect me from harm. I wondered if the other driver realized God had angels watching over him as well.

How many times in a single day does God move in our behalf and we go through the day without giving it a thought, much less a simple thank you, for placing a hedge of protection around us? Had the phone calls not occurred, causing me to be just a few minutes late leaving, things might have been so different. A head-on collision may have occurred injuring or killing all involved.  Thank God for interruptions and small frustrations!

So often we look for the ‘parting of the sea’ miracles in life, yet in doing so, we miss the daily loving acts of God.

Lord, open my eyes to your presence in my life every moment of the day. Thank you for your bountiful blessings and grace. Thank you for your divine protection; and as you promised, you are always with me. Amen
