As tornadoes and storms whipped through Oklahoma damaging hundreds of homes, I heard the roaring sounds and watched the ominous clouds pass over. We were fortunate to dodge the storms time and again. I was thankful to be safe; and sorrowed for those less fortunate.
There were stories of canceled checks dated back to the 70’s landing in yards from miles away. A few days later, another storm blew in, this time making an appearance at our home; catching me home alone; and sending me to the closet.
It suddenly became my shelter and my prayer closet. When I came out, I found only minor damage, a rose bush pounded to the ground, a large hog house lifted over a fence like a feather, and tossed in a nearby creek upside down.
In those moments I spent in the closet,
I experienced the peace of God, and knew I wasn’t alone. I remembered one of my favorite Psalms and began to pray the words. It was in praying the Word of God that I knew I was praying according to his will.
Psalm 81:2
“Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him, and honor him.” KJV
Drawing on the promises of God, strengthens when I am weak, gives me a hope when I begin to wane, calms my fears, and reminds me of God’s immeasurable love.
Indeed, God is an amazing God!
