Merry Christmas

The King is Coming

Several years ago, one of the most popular Christian songs of the time was ‘The Kings is Coming.’ I sang this song with a couple of other women and it never failed to move me with emotion as I considered the message of the Coming King.

The song tells the story of the second coming of Jesus. It describes housewives ceasing their labor in the home, workers in the fields ceasing their labors and the streets becoming silent. The market place is suddenly empty; and all work on earth is suspended. Then, the trumpet is sounding and those watching for Jesus suddenly see him face to face. O Halleluiah… What a day that will be!

I’ve often wondered what thoughts went through Mary and Joseph’s mind as they prepared for the birth. Then, imagine the wonder of it all as Mary wrapped her child, God incarnate, in swaddling clothes and tenderly held him to her breast. Possibly she sang a mother’s lullaby to her newborn child, or spoke soothing words of love while placing him in the manger before resting for the night. Joseph probably gave thanks to God for his protection and spoke blessings over the child.  He may have considered  the tremendous responsibility for the Son of God, both earthly and spiritually the Father had entrusted him.

The shepherds must have been so joyful that glorious night Jesus was born. Imagine hearing the heavenly angelic host proclaiming the birth of the Savior.

See in your mind’s eye, the star which shown brightly guiding the Wiseman as they traveled seeking the King. See them arriving at the house of the child, first and foremost, falling down and worshipping the Lord.

Matthew 2:11  And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh. KJV

As glorious as the birth of our Lord was, there’s another day coming, which will bring joy once more to those waiting and watching for His return. Jesus is going to split the eastern sky, and those of us who are watching will see his wonderful face and be caught up with him forever more. What a day that will be, when our Jesus we will see! Yes, the King is coming again… get ready!
